I’ve made music since I was a kid. Somewhere there must still exist a copy of about 20 minutes of synthesizer music I made on a (wealthy) friend’s synthesizer I got to play with after school one afternoon in, probably, the 8th grade. I remember feeling like it was better than I expected, and after that I had the feeling like making music was something I could do.
Bizarre Statue began in 2018, a result of a lot of years of slicing my music up into genres, and finally finding a way to make music that brought out the whole of what I do. I feel like my real musical life began that year.
This is my little corner of the internet and as such I have no plans to be active on social media or make lyric videos for the music and post them to whatever sites have them. The real purpose here is getting music out into the world to people who listen, and with this in mind I plan on making works-in-progress available here for subscribers. Subscription is free, and I definitely want to remain in touch with people who like the music. Subscribers will only get emailed for newly-available music, not for various other posts.
There have been two, or I should say one-and-a-half finished Bizarre Statue projects that have gone out into the world, “The Polish Embassy/The Cane Field,” from 2020, and 2025’s “Sketches,” the -and-a-half, because its two sides consist of modified and expanded sections from the finished but yet-to-be-released “Two Songs About Fire.” That project has found a home and will come out either later in 2026 or early 2027. Everything this year is in flux, as always but more than usual.
Music is my real work, but I consume a lot of culture, particularly music, films, and books, and I’ll write about them, especially as something makes me reflect in some way about what I do myself in music. As an aside, I feel like we’re at a point, or at least I’m at a point, where we need to get away from social media and back to various slower and steadier means of communication. Blogs are good for me. If something is important enough for me to comment on, I should write it up. If it’s not, I won’t add to the glut.
It goes without saying but I’ll still say it: AI stuff may have its place in the world, but that place is not here and definitely not in the music I make.
